How to Add a POS Device in the Portal
Register a POS device in the Portal so the POS app can link to it at sign-in — where to add it, the details you enter, and how it appears afterward.

Overview

Before a POS app can sign in, the POS device it will run on must be registered in the Portal for a store. Once added, the device appears in the app’s Select POS Device list during sign-in.

Where to Add It

Go to Devices & Sites → POS, which opens the POS List tab — a list of the POS devices registered for the selected store.

Add a POS Device

  1. Select the store the device belongs to using the store selector at the top. (The Add button stays disabled while “All Stores” is selected — you must pick one store.)
  2. Click Add POS.
  3. Enter a Name to identify the device (for example “Front Counter 1”).
  4. Click Create.

The new device is added to the selected store and shows a status of Offline. It turns Online once the POS app signs in and selects it.

Note  The device name must be unique and can be up to 30 characters (letters, numbers, spaces, “-” and “_”). If the name is already taken you’ll be asked to choose another.

Manage a Device

From the POS List you can:

  • Edit the device name.
  • Log out a device — this signs the app out of that device so it can be used elsewhere. Wait about a minute before signing back in on the POS.
  • Delete a device you no longer use.

Note  This page is for POS devices. Other device types — Kiosk, Mini POS, and KDS/EDS — are added from their own pages under Devices & Sites.

Next: Sign In on the POS

On the POS app, sign in and select this store and device to start using it. See the How to Log In to the POS guide for the full sign-in and open-shift flow.

Limitations & Considerations

  • A device is registered to one store; select the store before adding.
  • Device names are unique and limited to 30 characters.
  • A device is Offline until the POS app signs in and selects it, and one device can be in use by one session at a time.

Best Practices

  • Name devices by their location or role (for example “Counter 1”, “Drive-Thru”) so they’re easy to pick at sign-in and read in reports.
  • Register one device per physical POS terminal so sessions and sales stay clearly separated.
  • Use Log out from the Portal if a device is stuck signed in and you need to free it for another terminal.
